Radioactive Waste

The Environmental Compliance Program administers the radioactive waste program. Our objective is to minimize waste volumes, ensure proper storage before disposal, and to ensure proper final disposal of all radioactive waste generated at Emory University and all affiliated locations. Appropriately lined and labeled waste containers are provided to radioactive material users for segregation of waste into three different waste streams to include dry, liquid, and liquid scintillation vials. The final route of disposal depends on the radioisotope, activity, and physical and chemical form of the waste.

Radioactive waste requests should be made through EHS Assist. Consult EHSO’s Regulated Waste Guidelines for all instruction regarding all regulated wastes.
