Compressed Air & Compressed Air Equipment

Program Overview

The Compressed Air and Compressed Air Equipment Program provides instruction for the safe use and maintenance of compressed air and compressed air equipment at Emory University, as prescribed in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Standard - 29 CFR 1910:169 Compressed Air and Compressed Air Equipment. This applies to compressed air receivers and other equipment used in providing and utilizing compressed air for performing operations such as:

  • cleaning,
  • drilling,
  • hoisting,
  • and chipping.

This does not deal with the special problems created by using compressed air to convey materials nor the problems created when employees work in compressed air as in tunnels and caissons.
